Witnessing Lou’s Burial at Sea

At 1:30pm Sat. Feb. 5, 2011 following lunch at the Anderson Café in Morrow Bay, CA we gathered at the southwestern point of Morro Rock to observe Lou’s cremains being transported by a small boat from the Bay out to the Pacific Ocean. Then a representative of the Wheeler-Smith mortuary would sprinkle his ashes into the sea.

Standing near the water as the boat approached the opening to the sea we said a few prayers for the occasion and watched the boat disappear from view. Those present included: Frank D., Ken P., Cari K., and myself. It was a beautiful day, warm, bright sun, clear, and calm. I felt happy and peaceful to be part of the event. I knew in my heart we were fulfilling God’s wishes for Lou, as orchestrated by the urging of the Holy Spirit.

Prayer for My Friend Lou Asta

Yesterday morning (Sat. Feb. 5, 2011) at the 7am Mass in the Old Mission Catholic Church I was inspired to vocalize the following prayer during the time for intentions, immediately following Monsignor Steiger’s homily.

Father: We offer a prayer of thanksgiving for putting Lou Asta into our lives to show us true humility, perseverance, and genuine friendship. Amen.

My Guide for Practicing Lectio Divina

I’m preparing a simple Lectio Divina guide for Young Adults. Possible usage includes youth and adults in RICA and Confirmation Programs. So far I’ve been researching the web to see what’s out there. I found many books and pamphlets on the subject and I’ll use them as reference material.

My Lectio Divina Guide for Young Adults

I’m starting with A Guide To Lectio Divina by Fr. Christian Raab, O.S.B. in the Notes from a Monastery, The Sacred Way Every Day, 2009 Saint Mienrad Archabby, printed by Abbey Press.

The next step involves using Frank X. Jelenek’s Journey to the Heart, Centering Prayer for Children, published by Paraclete Press and adapting it for youth.

Do you think this is true?

Jim,

You love cats like I do; is this true? I sure hope it is!

No Heaven would Heaven ever be; if not for my cat(s) there to welcome me. Anonymous.

My Daily Evening Prayer

Dear Father in Heaven:
help me say the prayer you gave me.

For my mother and father
For my family and friends
For my generation and
For all who have gone before me
down through the ages.

Let them be happy serving and praising you and
May you be delighted with their childlike curiosity and awe,
As you walk with them in your beautiful garden.

Rescue all who have turned from you.
Send your mighty angels to battle for their souls.
Move them to a place where we can pray for them.

May our prayers help to send them back home to you,
the Almighty Creator of Heaven and Earth.

Amen

Our Father, Hail Mary, and the Jesus Prayer.

Where exactly does this quote come from?

Jim,

Even before you were born, God knew you name.
